Film Opening - Inspiration

When thinking about what I wanted to do for m film opening, I have decided to change my genre. I want to make a film opening for a horror/ thriller film. All of my favorite film openings have been from films with this genre. In my opinion, the best way to open a horror/ thriller film is with one of two things. You either start the film with something very positive where the protagonist(s) are in a positive state, then contrast throughout the film, or start with something scary or thrilling, but provide little to no context. I think I will end up going with the second option because I personally prefer that over the first. This opening should be a key story point that happens later in the film that the viewer can think of throughout the film. One example from a movie that I watched and blogged about recently would be Bird Box. The movie begins with a very important part of the movie, but you don't know what the scene means, or why it is there until around halfway through the movie. Another thing I love about these type of openings is the "aha" moment. Once I realized what the opening provided to the story, I was so excited. Openings like this give the viewer something to ponder in their own head during the duration of the movie and that is why I like them so much.

Observing Camera Angles From "The Office"

          For this assignment, I chose one of my favorite shows, "The Office." The style of this show is completely in a hand-held style, meaning a camera crew is following the actors instead of using a tripod. This show includes many different camera angles, but the three that I will be addressing today, are the High-Angle shot, Over-The-Shoulder shot, and the Reaction shot.           The High-Angle shot is used to show a scene where something happened or is happening over a large space, and where many things are going on at once. Master Shots

I want to start off this blog post by apologizing for my lateness. I finished editing the video at around 10:30 last night and my parents turn the wifi in the house off at 10 leaving me unable to upload to youtube. Thank you. This blog post is about my MASTER SHOTS. I filmed shots based on Contrast, Parallelism, Symbolism, and Leitmotif. Click here to view my video. Contrast - I chose to show the contrast of two things that are heavily present in my life, School and Theatre. The shot shows me opening a calculus textbook then the shot changes and shows me closing the script for the most recent show I was cast in.
