Film Opening Research #1 - Bird Box

Bird Box

The opening sequence of this movie is very simple. It only includes two titles, the production company (Netflix) and the title of the movie (Bird Box). Also, the beginning of the movie doesn't necessarily have to be the beginning of the story, a very common approach is starting a movie in the past, but this movie starts about halfway through the story. When watching for the first time I had no clue what any of it meant until I watched the movie and put pieces of the story together in my head and without having to revisit the scene in the opening, i already knew what it was about (although they do include the same scene from the opening where it belongs chronologically). They include images that spark an eerie feeling in the viewer. I could tell from the first few drone/ helicopter shots that the setting won't be bright or happy at all. Since this is a Netflix original movie produced in 2018, the quality of the equipment used is fantastic, and the quality of the image is outstanding.

Observing Camera Angles From "The Office"

          For this assignment, I chose one of my favorite shows, "The Office." The style of this show is completely in a hand-held style, meaning a camera crew is following the actors instead of using a tripod. This show includes many different camera angles, but the three that I will be addressing today, are the High-Angle shot, Over-The-Shoulder shot, and the Reaction shot.           The High-Angle shot is used to show a scene where something happened or is happening over a large space, and where many things are going on at once. In my example, Dwight (The employee the office likes to mess with) is sent on a fake scavenger hunt, that eventually, the entire office is fooled by and helps to look. Master Shots

I want to start off this blog post by apologizing for my lateness. I finished editing the video at around 10:30 last night and my parents turn the wifi in the house off at 10 leaving me unable to upload to youtube. Thank you. This blog post is about my MASTER SHOTS. I filmed shots based on Contrast, Parallelism, Symbolism, and Leitmotif. Click here to view my video. Contrast - I chose to show the contrast of two things that are heavily present in my life, School and Theatre. The shot shows me opening a calculus textbook then the shot changes and shows me closing the script for the most recent show I was cast in.
